Beloved, devotion is the holy fire that keeps the Church from growing cold in a changing world. Many things contend for the attention of the believer, but only one thing is truly needful: to sit at the feet of the Master and hear His word. When the soul chooses this better part, confusion begins to lift and purpose becomes clear. Devotion reorders priorities. It teaches the heart to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting that all other things will be added in due season. In this way, the devoted life is both focused and fruitful.
As the Archbishop, the desire is to see every believer anchored, not in emotion alone, but in a deep, steady walk with God. Feelings rise and fall, but devotion remains. It expresses itself when you stand in worship, though your heart is heavy, when you forgive. Still, you have been wronged, and when you labour in love, though few may notice. These hidden obediences are precious to God. They are the unseen pillars that uphold the visible work of the Church. Without them, ministry becomes performance; with them, ministry becomes true service.
Devotion is also a school of transformation. In the presence of God, pride is humbled, fear is quieted, and bitterness is dissolved. The Spirit gently unveils areas that need healing and habits that must be surrendered. This refining is not to destroy, but to prepare the vessel for greater use. The more the heart yields, the more Christ is formed within, and the more clearly His character shines through speech, conduct, and relationships. A devoted Church will always be a changing Church, ever being conformed to the image of the Son.
As you move forward, guard anything that stifles your devotion. Be discerning about what you entertain, how you speak, and where you invest your time. Keep close to the altar of prayer, keep your Bible open, and keep your heart tender before God. May your devotion deepen beyond mere words into a life fully surrendered, and may the favour of the Lord continue to overshadow you and this Mystical Order as a sign of His abiding presence.
