“And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.” — 1 Samuel 3:8
I. ORIGINS AND EARLY LIFE
His Holiness Sir Godfrey Gregg was born in the beautiful island State of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the son of Deldie and McDonald Bynoe. He spent the formative years of his life on the island, where the rhythms of Caribbean faith, community, and spiritual heritage were woven into the fabric of his upbringing. He received his early education at the Bequia Seventh-day Secondary School, laying a foundation of discipline and inquiry that would serve him throughout a lifetime of ministry and scholarship.
In his youth, Patriarch Gregg was raised within the Anglican Church, absorbing the liturgical traditions of that venerable communion. Yet the Spirit of God was drawing him toward a deeper encounter with living faith. In time he became a member of the End Time Tabernacle, where he was baptized and first heard the unmistakable call of divine appointment upon his life.
II. THE SPIRITUAL BAPTIST CALLING
The call to the Spiritual Baptist Faith came as a divine summons that Patriarch Gregg could not set aside. He joined the St. Malachi Spiritual Baptist Church, then under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Nimrod Myers and his wife Reverend Catherine Myers. There he was washed and anointed, placed on the bench, and took his first “throne of grace” — that sacred season of mourning, prayer, and spiritual revelation at the heart of Spiritual Baptist devotional practice. He was elevated to the office of Leader in that congregation, faithfully serving the Lord and growing in the depths of the tradition.
His hunger for the fullness of the Faith led him further. He became a member of St. Mary’s Spiritual Baptist Church, where he also received a “throne of grace” under the guidance of Pointer Conrad. He visited many churches throughout all districts of St. Vincent, maintaining his independence of spirit while deepening his roots in the Spiritual Baptist tradition and its rich African and Caribbean spiritual heritage.
III. EDUCATION, ORDINATION, AND SCHOLARLY ACHIEVEMENT
Patriarch Gregg migrated to the United States of America, where he pursued formal theological education with the same intensity he brought to his spiritual formation. In 2007 he was ordained to ministry and received his first Doctor of Divinity, a recognition of his theological learning and pastoral calling. In 2010, having completed further courses in Religious Studies, he was ordained again — a dual ordination that speaks to his sustained commitment to both formal scholarship and the living practice of faith.
Over the course of his scholarly career, Patriarch Gregg has accumulated a distinguished portfolio of academic and ecclesiastical credentials. In addition to dual Doctorates of Divinity (D.Div), he holds certificates in Church Management and Church Administration. He holds the Mystical Degree of Ordained High Priest of the Order of Melchizedek (OHPM), an honour reflecting his deep engagement with the priestly and mystical dimensions of Christian ministry. He is also a Licensed Marriage Officiant (LOM) with the State of New York, extending his pastoral care to the most sacred covenant in human life.
His scholarship flows through an extensive body of published devotional writings, theological reflections, and pastoral messages that have reached thousands across multiple platforms, and continue to be published through The Mystical Order Ministries International’s digital presence. He has also authored major ecclesiastical documents, including formal constitutions, proclamations, and commemorative works that preserve and advance the heritage of the Spiritual Baptist Faith.
IV. CO-FOUNDER AND ARCHITECT OF THE MYSTICAL ORDER
In 2010, Patriarch Gregg became a co-founder of The Mystical Order of Spiritual Baptist Inc., an organisation that grew from a humble prayer group into a fully registered ecclesiastical body in the City and State of New York. From its earliest days he served as Administrator — a role requiring both pastoral vision and meticulous legal skill. He was entrusted with overseeing the formal registration of the church and with the critical task of drafting the Rules and Bylaws that govern the Order, a foundational document that continues to guide the community’s life.
In 2011, the Archbishop appointed him to the office of Bishop. His leadership capacity was swiftly recognised: in 2012 he was elevated to Senior Bishop, and later that same year was appointed to replace the Archbishop as Presiding Prelate following the Archbishop’s elevation to the highest office of Patriarch. From that moment, Sir Godfrey Gregg has served continuously, ascending in subsequent years to the office of Patriarch and Presiding Prelate, the position he holds to this day.
As Patriarch and Presiding Prelate, His Holiness provides apostolic oversight and governance for The Mystical Order Ministries International, which now encompasses congregations in New York and extends its jurisdiction to a Sister Church in Trinidad and Tobago. He serves under the Supreme Leadership of His All Holiness, Patriarch and Chief Apostle Sir Darrindel Hoyte-Johnson, and works in close collaboration with the Patriarchal Council, including Matriarch Hon. Elnette Veronica Edwards and other distinguished leaders of the Order.
V. HONOURS, DECORATIONS, AND KNIGHTLY ORDERS
The breadth of Patriarch Gregg’s service has been recognised through a number of distinguished ecclesiastical honours and knightly decorations. He received the honour of Knight of the Order of Saint Michael (OSM) from the Church of Seven Planes, an investiture that marked his entrance into the chivalric traditions of sacred service. He has further been awarded the Order of Saint John (OSJ), connecting him to one of the most ancient and honourable traditions of Christian knighthood.
Upon the recommendation of The Mystical Court, the Patriarch conferred upon him the title of Grand Commander of Saint Michael and Saint George (GCMG), one of the highest honours within the Order’s chivalric system. He also holds the Royal Order of the Mystical Court (ROMC), awarded by the Lord Patriarch and Chief Apostle, a degree forming part of the Office of the Divisional Patriarch. He currently serves as Vice Grand Commanding Officer of The Mystical Court, guiding a body of carefully vetted members in the trusts, teachings, and fraternal obligations at the heart of the Court’s sacred mission.
VI. LITERARY AND DIGITAL MINISTRY
Patriarch Gregg is a prolific writer and teacher whose body of work spans theology, devotional literature, ecclesiastical governance, and pastoral instruction. He has authored hundreds of published sermons, reflective devotionals, and theological expositions across The Mystical Order’s network of platforms, including the flagship website at http://www.mysticalorderinc.org, The Mystical Court (www.mysticalcourt.com), and The Mystical Brotherhood (www.mysticalbrotherhood.com). His daily writings reach a wide and growing readership across the Caribbean diaspora and beyond.
Among his major literary contributions is the full-length theological work The Mystical Order on the Scale of the Balance, featuring twelve chapters addressing divine justice, covenant order, patriarchal leadership, and eschatological vision, complete with study guides, appendices, and a Scripture index. He has also produced a substantial body of formal ecclesiastical documents, including Proclamations, Decrees, Commemorative Tributes, and biographical records — all reflecting his commitment to preserving the institutional memory and theological legacy of The Mystical Order.
VII. ECUMENICAL VISION, COMMUNITY, AND SPIRITUAL UNITY
Throughout his ministry, Patriarch Gregg has nurtured a burning vision for unity within the Spiritual Baptist Faith. From the earliest days of The Mystical Order, he identified the digital and ecumenical potential of online ministry as a means of fostering communion among Spiritual Baptist churches across divisions and geographies. His founding of the Order’s online presence was animated by this vision — that the scattered children of the Faith might be drawn together as one body in Christ.
He has been deeply committed to honouring and preserving the Spiritual Baptist heritage, including the memory of the pioneers who suffered under the Shouter Prohibition Ordinance and who laid the groundwork for the religious freedoms the Faith now enjoys. He has produced formal commemorative documents, including tributes to pioneering figures such as the beloved leader of St. Peter’s Spiritual Baptist Church in Calder, St. Vincent, ensuring that the sacrifices of the ancestors of the Faith are neither forgotten nor unacknowledged.
VIII. PERSONAL LIFE AND WITNESS
Patriarch Gregg is the father of one daughter, and has been blessed with grandchildren — two grandsons named Le’Mar and Liam, a granddaughter named Shamiah — whose lives represent the continuation of a legacy of faith. He balances the demands of ecclesiastical leadership with the disciplines of secular employment, modelling for his congregation and broader community the integrity of a life lived in faithful service both within and beyond the walls of the Church.
His birthday is celebrated on the eighth of October, a date observed with love and gratitude by the members and clergy of The Mystical Order Ministries International. Those who know him describe a leader of remarkable devotion, one who leads not from a posture of privilege but from a posture of prayer. His daily writings, consistently marked by Scripture, pastoral warmth, and theological depth, are the testimony of a man whose inner life of devotion overflows into every dimension of his public ministry.
“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” — Romans 11:29
