WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT HONOUR

Honour: The Forgotten Virtue?

What the Bible Says About Honour

The Bible says that there are several different groups we should honour. I’m going to focus only on the three that I believe are most important for you to become all God wants you to be. My brothers and sisters in the Lord and The Mystical Order it is the desire of God that we obey the word as clearly stated in the book of Exodus.

First, we’re supposed to honour our parents. The Bible is incredibly clear on this one. It’s so important, God actually included it in his top ten in Exodus 20:12:

Honour your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

So often, the opposite happens. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen teenagers (and even children) speak disrespectfully to their parents. It seems like some kids even go out of their way to dishonour their parents, trashing them online or even to their faces. And our culture seems to celebrate this behaviour, often playing it as comedy.

And this verse doesn’t apply just to children. God doesn’t give an upper age limit on honouring our parents. We don’t do it just when we’re little kids. We continue doing it when we’re in our twenties, our thirties, our forties, our fifties. If you have children yourself, a good way to demonstrate honour to your parents is to speak well of them in front of their grandchildren. Maybe your parents didn’t live honourable lives. Maybe your dad ran off with another woman. Maybe your mom struggled with substance abuse. Whatever their circumstances, it really doesn’t matter.

It’s respect that people have to earn; honour is a gift that you give freely. This is something I preach all the time and behaviour has consequences and they can be very harsh. (Read Article 13 of the Rules and Bylaws of The Mystical Order) You will see that there are consequences for behaviour unbecoming ministers and members of the church. The Leaders of The Mystical Order will not condone the behaviour of its members and will discipline whenever and according to the Rules of the Order.

There is a protocol to follow which has an Order and bears the fruit of Respect. Whenever the Rules are disobeyed in public and on social media there are consequences which could end with dismissal from the Holy Mystical Orders. Obedience is a form of Honour and the Commandments tell us to honour our fathers and mothers that their days be long upon the earth. Ministry is something I take very seriously because we have people, and souls, in our hands. Therefore, we have to follow the Holy Script closely. Steering the course. Elders MUST be proper examples to the people we serve.

Find ways you can honour them, not just because they deserve it but because it’s the right thing to do. Just don’t do it on mother’s day or father’s day. This is a year-round thing and it is the right thing to do. Learn to appreciate those around you and express it when you can.
