HH, Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div
“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”—Romans 12:19
Vengeance is not something that belongs to you. And yet this is precisely what gets us into trouble. We want it, crave it, and desire to possess it. But only the one who is truly just, fair, and righteous is powerful enough to possess it and wield it righteously is God. You know you have tried to possess it, and this only gets you in trouble. Due to insecurity, revenge, and self-preservation—we act, ignorant of the damage we inflict on self and others. Frequently this lends itself to injury that we try to reverse but sometimes has long-lasting consequences. Instead, leave this one for God today, his wrath is fair and justice—yours is not.
TRY THIS TODAY: Leave vengeance for God.
PRAYER: God, forgive me for the times I have acted in vengeance. Shower me with your grace and mercy, and bless those who have been hurt by men like me. Help me to hold my tongue a little longer today, on my journey of becoming a better man. AMEN
