HH, Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14).

The blessed Holy Spirit is our Guide, our Leader, and our Resting-place. There are times when He presses us forward into prayer, into service, into suffering, into new experiences, new duties, new claims of faith, and hope, and love, but there are times when He arrests us in our activity, and rests us under His overshadowing wing, and quiets us in the secret place of the Most High, teaching us some new lessons, breathing into us some deeper strength or fulness, and then leading us on again, at His bidding alone.

He is the true Guide of the saint, and the true Leader of the Church, our Wonderful Counsellor, our unerring Friend; and he who would deny the personal guidance of the Holy Ghost in order that he might honour the Word of God as our only guide, must dishonour that other word of promise, that His sheep shall know His voice, and that His hearkening and obedient children shall hear a voice behind them saying, “This is the way, walk ye in it.”

My sheep know my voice and that is what they follow. Any other voice is contrary and must be disregarded. As a spiritualist within the Baptist Faith, there is a voice among the voices that one has to follow. There are many voices in the church today and there are many uncertainties among the churches as to the voice that is real. When Samuel heard the voice he was not certain who was calling him so he sought the advice of his Elder and spiritual leader. He heard the voice several times and each time he sought advice until he was given a high level of instructions which Samuel followed. You have to be sure and know who is advising you and leading you to that voice. You see brethren if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound who can prepare for the battle. If the watchman falls asleep then he cannot sound the alarm to the city. I am afraid too many watchmen are not just asleep but they are dead. While the harvest is getting ripe the leadership is falling apart and the labourers are few in numbers.
