The Importance of Rest in God
Dear Beloved in Christ,
In a world that glorifies busyness, rest is often seen as a luxury rather than a necessity. Yet, God designed rest as a sacred rhythm for our lives. In Genesis 2:2-3, we read that after creating the world, “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy.” If the Almighty God rested, how much more do we, as finite beings, need to embrace rest as a gift from Him?
Rest is not laziness; it is an act of trust. When we rest, we acknowledge that we are not the source of our own strength but that God is our provider and sustainer. Jesus Himself invited His disciples to rest, saying, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31). Rest is an opportunity to be still in Godโs presence, to reflect on His goodness, and to be renewed in body, mind, and spirit.

In our fast-paced lives, it is easy to neglect rest, but doing so can lead to burnout, anxiety, and spiritual dryness. God calls us to a life of balance, where we work diligently but also take time to rest and recharge. This includes physical rest, emotional rest, and spiritual restโwhere we cease striving and simply abide in Him.
Let us prioritize rest as an act of worship. Let us set aside time to be still, to pray, and to listen to Godโs voice. And as we rest, may we experience the peace that comes from trusting in His provision and care.
May you find true rest in Godโs presence, and may your life be marked by the balance of work and renewal.
In His Peace,
Archbishop and Presiding Prelate
Sir Andres B. Quow
