HH, Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div
The Nails of the Cross and for our Scripture reading today we will turn to the Book of
Matthew 27:34-38 and reads thus:
They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. 35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. 36 And sitting down they watched him there; 37 And set up over his head his accusation written, This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews. 38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
I want you to pay close attention to verse 37.
And set up over his head his accusation written,
THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
There were four nails put in the cross when they hung our Lord two thousand years ago. Many people forget about the nail which was used to hang the sign above his head and we will cover that this morning.
This is a time we have gathered to have revival in our hearts and it is my heart’s desire and prayer to God that with each thrust of the four nails our hearts will become joined as one with our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.
I am sure we all have heard a few preachers preach on picking up your cross daily and following Jesus and that is very true; however, we have forgotten what carrying the cross means.
I hope the more we open God’s Word and the more compassionate and tender our hearts will be.
The bible teaches that whom the Lord loves he corrects, he disciplines.
God wants more than your body, today my friends, fellow ministers, brothers and sisters he wants your heart your very being.
If you’re not a born again child of God this morning then I beg you to give him your all. With that said let’s look at the nails in our lesson.
1. With this nail I thee wed you to the hand that will one day dry your tears.
Revelation 7:17 says that God shall wipe away all the tears from your eyes.
We all brag that there will be no tears in heaven.
I am not sure if we will be able to weep for the joy we will feel. You see I do not really think we truly comprehend all the love that was nailed to the cross that day.
If we did, I am sure we would show Jesus in our lives and what he means to us.
At the end of John, we hear Pilot says “Behold the Man” and “Behold your King”
At the beginning of John, he says “Behold the Lamb”. And we hear God saying “Behold my Son in whom I am well pleased”
II. With this nail I thee wed you to the feet that walked where you were supposed to walk.
My friends, fellow ministers, brothers and sisters, the Bible teaches the walk of death without Jesus is the worse thing a man or woman will ever go through.
Every day someone’s mommy, daddy, son, daughter, grandma, grandpa, dies and goes to hell alone:
Praise God, Jesus walked the lonely road of death for me. Now I can shout
“DEATH WHERE IS THY STING GRAVE WHERE IS THY VICTORY?
1 Corinthians 15:55
I may walk in this life some places where pain dwells but I know my redeemer walks the road with me with the feet I nailed to the cross.
Revelation 1:8, 11, 18
8. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. 11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
I needed Him to touch my cheek and dry some tears And He Did.
I needed Him to walk where I could not walk And He Did.
He walked through death for me.
He walked up the hill for me.
He travelled every mile just for me.
All I had to give Jesus was my sins.
They caused Him to walk into hell for my shame. And He Did.
I had nothing yet He gave everything.
I sent Him into hell, and He is coming to take me to Heaven!
I nailed Him to the cross, He set me free.
I rejected Him; He shed His tears for me.
We forget what we have done to Jesus!
We nailed Him to the cross!
If we ever want revival in our lives it means giving everything to Him.
Stop with the excuses, stop the sinning, stop the pride, and let’s get to our knees!
III. With this nail I thee wed you to the hand that hung Christ to the Cross.
I challenge you to remember the sign hung above the Saviour’s head
(THIS IS JESUS THE KING)
Listen with all your heart, put everything else to the side, this is what its all about,
I believe with all my heart God can God will.
Believing thief CHRIST Unbelieving thief
Sin in him Sin NOT in Him Sin in him
NO sin on him SIN On HIM Sin on him
The Cross:
The testimony to man’s sin: Acts2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
The triumph of God’s Grace: Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Here is the Conclusion
My friends, fellow ministers, brothers and sisters, when we take off our fancy clothes this is what God sees.
The only way we can have revival in our life is to stop trying to hide and start laying it on the altar.
GOD is here for you. I know he is here; will you come and meet him?
Will, you cast your shame, guilt, and sin upon the altar?
Don’t let pride get in the way.
Are you without Jesus in your life?
Why don’t you come and let us introduce you to the Risen Saviour, Jesus Christ?
