Archbishop Andres B. Quow
We live in an age of unparalleled connection, yet I perceive a profound famine of true presence. We are connected to screens, to networks, to information streams, but often disconnected from the sacred weight of a shared moment. Today, I, Presiding Prelate Sir Andres B. Quow, call us back to the incarnational ministry modeled by our Lord: the ministry of presence. The Word did not send a treatise; He became flesh and dwelt among us. Likewise, our most powerful ministry is often not in the sermon we preach from the pulpit, but in the silence, we share on a porch; not in the scripted prayer, but in the tears, we do not wipe away as we kneel beside a grieving brother or sister. This is devotion in its most tangible, costly, and Christlike form.

This sacred presence requires the full surrender of our distractions. It means to listen with the soul, not merely to wait for a pause to speak. It is to hold another’s pain without the immediate urge to diagnose or dismiss it. It is to be a living sanctuary for a struggling spirit—a safe space where masks can fall without fear. As your Archbishop, I am convicted that the Church must master this art anew. Our programs are many, but our quiet, patient, holy presence is the irreplaceable currency of love. The title ‘Sir’ compels me to this chivalry of attention—to champion the dignity of every individual by offering them the gift of my focused, prayerful being. Let us, therefore, put down our devices and pick up the cross of engaged compassion. Let us be a people known not just for what we believe, but for how deeply we are willing to be with those who are lonely, wounded, or doubting. In that sacred space of shared humanity, the Holy Spirit moves, and healing begins. This is not an addition to our mission; it is the very heart of it.
