1. Introduction
Reverend Mother Pointer Catherine Myers (deceased) stands as an enduring icon within the Spiritual Baptist Faith, particularly in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. As a foundational leader of St. Malachi Spiritual Baptist Church in Redemption Sharpes, she exemplified spiritual fortitude, prophetic clarity, and pastoral excellence.
2. Early Life and Calling
Born into an era when the Spiritual Baptist community faced social and legal marginalization, Mother Myers heeded a divine call at an early age. Her spiritual development was marked by visions, dreams, and the “mourning” tradition—a rigorous rite of passage that confirmed her appointment as a Pointer and later as a Reverend Mother.

3. Trailblazing Ministry
Pioneering Leadership: She was among the first women in the region to hold dual authority as Pointer (one who discerns spirits and directs worship) and Reverend Mother, breaking gender barriers in a then predominantly male-led hierarchy.
Establishment of St. Malachi Church: Under her guidance, the church in Redemption Sharpes became a beacon for the dispossessed, offering not only worship but also social support, counselling, and spiritual covering.
Liturgical Innovation: She integrated traditional African retention practices—such as bell ringing, banner processions, and anointing with holy oil—within a distinctly Christian framework, preserving the authenticity of the Faith.
4. Legacy in the Spiritual Baptist Faith
Mother Myers trained numerous mothers, deacons, and pointers who now serve across the Vincentian diaspora (Toronto, New York, London). Her spiritual offspring credit her with instilling disciplined altar protocol, intercessory warfare, and compassionate community outreach. She is remembered as a “Mother in Israel” who stood unshaken during police raids and legal disputes preceding the repeal of repressive colonial-era laws.
5. Recognition by The Mystical Order Ministries
Under the Supreme Leadership of Patriarch and Chief Apostle Sir Darrindel Hoyte-Johnson, The Mystical Order Ministries formally acknowledges Reverend Mother Pointer Catherine Myers as:
A Trailblazer of the Faith
A Guardian of Spiritual Baptist Orthodoxy
A Matriarch of Revival in Redemption Sharpes
Her name is inscribed in the Ministry’s Roll of Honoured Ancestors, and her model of servant leadership is taught in the Order’s ecclesiastical training programs.
6. Conclusion
Though deceased, Reverend Mother Pointer Catherine Myers lives on in the ringing of the sanctified bell, the weeping of the mourners’ bench, and the unbroken lineage of Spiritual Baptist authority. The Mystical Order Ministries salutes her memory and charges present-day believers to walk in her trailblazing footsteps.
Prepared this day by the Office of the Patriarch and Presiding Prelate, Sir Godfrey Gregg, for the edification of the faithful and the preservation of sacred history.
