REDEMPTION: BEAUTY FROM ASHES

Pastoral Messages by Matriarch Elnette Edwards

Precious ones,

Redemption is God’s specialty—taking what’s broken, ruined, or lost and restoring it to something beautiful and useful. It’s His nature to redeem. He doesn’t just salvage the usable pieces; He transforms the entire wreckage into something more glorious than the original. Nothing is beyond His redemptive power.

The ultimate expression of redemption is salvation. We were lost in sin, destined for separation from God, enslaved to darkness. But Jesus paid the price to buy us back, to redeem us. His blood covered our debt, His sacrifice secured our freedom, and His resurrection guaranteed our future. We who were enemies became children. We who were condemned received pardon. That’s redemption.

But God’s redemptive work doesn’t stop at salvation—it continues throughout our lives. He redeems our mistakes, our failures, our broken dreams, our wasted years, our painful experiences. What the enemy meant for evil, God redeems for good. What seemed like dead ends become new beginnings. What looked like disasters become testimonies.

I’ve experienced this personally. There are chapters of my life I’m not proud of—seasons of rebellion, decisions I regret, relationships I damaged, time I wasted. For years, I grieved over those lost years, convinced they were irredeemable. But God showed me that He wastes nothing. He redeemed every failure, using my experiences—even the painful ones—to shape me, teach me, and equip me for ministry.

The difficult seasons developed compassion in me for others struggling similarly. The mistakes taught me humility and dependence on God. The pain gave me authentic understanding of others’ suffering. God redeemed my mess and turned it into a message that brings hope to others. That’s His redemptive nature—He doesn’t just restore; He transforms into something better.

Redemption requires surrender. We must release to God what we want Him to redeem. As long as we hold onto our pain, our bitterness, our regrets—trying to manage them ourselves—we limit His redemptive work. But when we surrender everything to Him, trusting His ability to bring good from it, He works miracles.

The prophet Joel promised that God would restore the years the locusts had eaten. What was lost, what was destroyed, what seemed irretrievable—God promised to restore. This is still His promise today. Whatever you’ve lost—time, opportunities, relationships, dreams—God can restore. His redemption isn’t limited by how much damage has occurred or how long it’s been.

I’ve watched God redeem broken marriages, restore prodigal children, resurrect dead dreams, heal damaged emotions, and rebuild shattered lives. Nothing is impossible for Him. What seems beyond hope to us is simply another opportunity for Him to demonstrate His redemptive power.

But redemption often requires patience. Restoration doesn’t always happen immediately. Sometimes God redeems over time, season by season, layer by layer. We must trust His timing and process, believing that He’s working even when we don’t see evidence yet.

Redemption also costs something—it cost Jesus everything. His sacrifice made our redemption possible. This should humble us and motivate us to live worthy of such great redemption. We’re not our own; we were bought with a price. Our redeemed lives should glorify Him.

What needs redemption in your life? What are you convinced is beyond hope? What have you written off as irretrievably lost? Bring it to God. He specializes in redemption. He can bring beauty from your ashes, joy from your mourning, praise from your despair. Trust Him with your brokenness and watch what He does. Your redemption story will become your greatest testimony.

Redeemed and restored,
