GOD’S PURITY

HH, Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div

“O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.” (Jeremiah 48:28).

Harmless as a dove is Christ’s interpretation of the beautiful emblem. And so the Spirit of God is purity itself. He cannot dwell in an unclean heart. He cannot abide in the natural mind. It was said of the anointing of old, “On man’s flesh it shall not be poured.” Exodus 30:32

The purity which the Holy Spirit brings is like the white and spotless little plant which grows up out of the heap of manure, or the black soil, without one grain of impurity adhering to its crystalline surface, spotless as an angel’s wing. How I love the words of the Lord when He said,  “Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Luke 12:27

So the Holy Spirit gives a purity of heart which gives its own protection, for it is essentially unlike the evil things which grow around it. It may be surrounded on every side with evil, but it is uncontaminated and pure because its very nature is essentially holy and divine. Like the plumage of the dove, it cannot be soiled but comes forth from the miry pool unstained and unsullied by the dark waters, because it is protected by the oily covering which sheds off every defilement and makes it proof against the touch of every stain.

So we are no different in this comparison. The Lord who is our protection watches over us and like the dove, He provides for us a coat of protection that acts as a repellant from sin. This comes in the form of the Holy Spirit who is also our shield and defender. Like the dove, the believer builds his or her home in the cleft of the rock and the songwriter declares that this Rock is Jesus. High up on the side and away from all harm and danger. Hallelujah. If you are not there as yet after many years ministering to the world I am encouraging you again to take another look and find some help to get back to the place where you can find that peace and shelter in the Rock of Ages.
