FAITH: THE FOUNDATION OF OUR WALK

My precious family,

Faith is the foundation of everything in the Christian life. Without faith, the Bible tells us, it’s impossible to please God. Faith believes God exists, that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him, and that His Word is true regardless of what circumstances suggest. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

I’ve learned that faith isn’t the absence of doubt—it’s the decision to trust God despite doubt. We all have moments when circumstances challenge our beliefs, when prayers seem unanswered, when God feels distant. Faith doesn’t deny these feelings; it chooses to trust God’s character over our current experience.

Faith also grows through testing. When Abraham was asked to sacrifice Isaac, his faith was tested to the extreme. When Job lost everything, his faith was tested severely. When the disciples faced the storm while Jesus slept, their faith was tested. Each test was an opportunity for faith to deepen and strengthen. Our tests serve the same purpose.

I remember a season when everything I believed was tested. Finances were devastated, health was failing, relationships were strained, and ministry seemed fruitless. Every day I had to choose faith over fear, trust over doubt, hope over despair. Those weren’t easy choices—they were battles. But each time I chose faith, it grew stronger. What once required tremendous effort eventually became more natural.

Faith requires action. James tells us that faith without works is dead. It’s not enough to say we believe—we must act on that belief. When God tells us to go, we go. When He tells us to give, we give. When He tells us to forgive, we forgive. Faith obeys even when it doesn’t understand, even when it’s afraid, even when circumstances suggest waiting.

I’ve also learned that faith is contagious. When others see you trusting God through difficulty, it strengthens their faith. When they watch you stand firm despite opposition, it encourages them to stand. When they witness God’s faithfulness in your life, it increases their confidence in Him. Your faith journey impacts more people than you realize.

But faith must be in the right object. We don’t have faith in faith—we have faith in God. Our confidence isn’t in our ability to believe strongly enough but in God’s character and promises. He’s faithful even when our faith wavers. He’s constant even when we’re inconsistent. He’s trustworthy even when we struggle to trust.

Faith also sees beyond the natural to the supernatural. It looks at impossibilities and says, “With God, all things are possible.” It faces giants and remembers that our God is bigger. It confronts obstacles and believes God will make a way. Faith has spiritual vision that perceives what natural eyes cannot see.

The heroes of faith in Hebrews 11 all had one thing in common—they believed God and acted on that belief, even when they didn’t see immediate results. Some saw promises fulfilled; others died still believing. But all were commended for their faith. God honors those who trust Him, regardless of the outcome they witness.

Where is your faith being tested today? What impossibility are you facing? What promise seems delayed? Choose faith. Trust God’s character. Stand on His Word. Act in obedience. Your faith may feel small, but even faith the size of a mustard seed moves mountains. Keep believing. God is faithful.
