Day 19 – April 3: Unity Demands Truth
“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” – Ephesians 4:15
Some mistakenly believe that unity requires us to avoid difficult conversations, overlook sin, or suppress disagreement. This false unity is actually just peace-keeping, and it leads not to strength but to stagnation and eventual collapse. True unity is built on truth spoken in love, not on silence or pretence.
Speaking truth in love is an art that requires both courage and compassion. The truth part demands that we don’t ignore problems, excuse sin, or allow error to go unchallenged. The love part demands that we address these issues with the person’s best interest at heart, not with harshness, superiority, or a desire to win an argument.
In The Mystical Order Ministries, we must create a culture where truth-telling is valued and practised appropriately. This means if you see a brother or sister caught in sin, you lovingly and privately address it rather than gossiping about it. It means if you disagree with a direction being taken, you respectfully present your concerns to the appropriate people rather than criticizing publicly. It means being honest about struggles rather than pretending everything is fine.
Jesus was the ultimate example of this balance. He spoke hard truths to the Pharisees but did so because He loved them enough to confront their hypocrisy. He corrected Peter’s error but later restored him. He confronted the woman at the well about her sin while offering her living water.
Unity without truth is fragile and false. Truth without love is harsh and destructive. But truth spoken in love builds the kind of unity that lasts and leads to genuine spiritual growth.
Prayer Focus: Pray for grace to speak truth in love and receive it with humility, creating a culture of honest, caring communication.
