Day 6 – March 21: Unity Requires Sacrifice

“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.” – Ephesians 4:1-2
Unity is not convenient. It costs us something. It requires us to lay down our personal preferences, swallow our pride, and extend grace even when we’d rather withdraw. Paul wrote these words from prison, understanding that true spiritual maturity means bearing with one another even when it’s uncomfortable.
The word “forbearing” in this passage means to endure, to put up with, to tolerate with patience. This isn’t a call to tolerate sin or compromise truth, but rather to extend patience with people’s weaknesses, quirks, and differences. It means choosing relationship over being right. It means biting your tongue when you’d rather lash out. It means staying at the table when walking away would be easier.
In The Mystical Order Ministries, we are a family, and every family requires sacrifice to remain strong. You may not always agree with how a service is conducted, what songs are chosen, or how decisions are made. You may find certain personalities challenging or certain approaches different from your preference. This is where forbearance becomes practical.
The question is: what are you willing to sacrifice to maintain unity? Will you sacrifice your need to be heard in every meeting? Will you sacrifice your desire for recognition? Will you sacrifice your comfort zone to embrace someone different from you? Jesus sacrificed everything for unity between God and humanity. Surely we can sacrifice our minor preferences for unity among His people.
Today, identify one personal preference or right you’re willing to lay down for the sake of unity in our ministry. It might be a worship style preference, a service time convenience, or a leadership approach. Offer it to God as a sacrifice.
Prayer Focus: Ask God for a spirit of longsuffering and forbearance toward others in the body of Christ.
