“ And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.” (Genesis 32:24).

Left alone! What different sensations those words conjure up to each of us. To some, they spell loneliness and desolation, to others rest and quiet. To be left alone without God would be too awful for words, but to be left alone with Him is a foretaste of Heaven! If His followers spent more time alone with Him, we should have spiritual giants again.

This is the place I want to send you in these troubled times to be alone with God. As we are in the midst of a terrible pandemic I am calling on you (my readers) to spend some time alone with God). During that time I am urging you to make intercession on behalf of yourself, family, country, government, healthcare workers and keep lifting up every area of life to the Lord.

The Master set us an example. Note how often He went to be alone with God; and He had a mighty purpose behind the command, “When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray.” Not the typical closet, but it can be somewhere alone shut out from interference.

The greatest miracles of Elijah and Elisha took place when they were alone with God.

• It was alone with God that Jacob became a prince; and just there that we, too, may become princes–“men (aye, and women too!) wondered at” (Zechariah 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch).
• Joshua was alone when the Lord came to him. (Joshua 1:1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying)
• Gideon and Jephthah were by themselves when commissioned to save Israel. (Judges 6:11 And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. and Judges 11:29 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon)
• Moses was by himself at the wilderness bush. (Exodus 3:1-5 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. ² And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. ⁴ And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. ⁵ And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground)
• Cornelius was praying by himself when the angel came to him. (Acts 10:2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway)
• No one was with Peter on the housetop, when he was instructed to go to the Gentiles. (Acts 10:9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour)
• John the Baptist was alone in the wilderness (Luke 1:9 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel)
• John the Beloved alone in Patmos, when nearest God. (Revelation 1:9  I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ)

Covet to get alone with God. If we neglect it, we not only rob ourselves but for others too, of blessing, since when we are blessed we are able to pass on the blessing to others. It may mean less outside work; it must mean more depth and power, and the consequence, too, will be “they saw no man save Jesus only.”

To be alone with God in prayer cannot be over-emphasized.

“If chosen men had never been alone, In deepest silence open-doored to God, No greatness ever had been dreamed or done.”

Have you ever been alone with your God locked in somewhere, where you stayed until you got that message or heard the voice speaking to you? Yes I have been there several times and I still find the time to be left alone with God until I hear from heaven.
