Day 17 – April 1: Unity Requires Humility
“Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.” – Romans 12:16
Pride is perhaps the greatest enemy of unity. It was pride that caused Lucifer’s fall, pride that led to the first sin in Eden, and pride that continues to fragment the body of Christ today. Pride says, “My way is best. My perspective is right. My preferences should prevail.” Humility says, “Perhaps I don’t see the whole picture. Maybe I can learn from this person. Let’s find a solution that serves the greater good.”
Humility doesn’t mean you have no opinions or convictions. It means you hold them with an open hand, recognizing that you see through a glass darkly and that God’s ways are higher than yours. It means being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. It means valuing others’ input even when it differs from your own.
In practical terms, humility in The Mystical Order Ministries looks like the worship leader accepting feedback from members, the long-time member welcoming a newcomer’s fresh ideas, the educated professional learning from the simple faith of an uneducated believer, and the naturally gifted person honouring the diligent efforts of someone less talented.
One of humility’s most powerful expressions is the willingness to say, “I was wrong. I’m sorry. Will you forgive me?” These words have extraordinary healing power. They disarm defensiveness, open closed hearts, and restore broken relationships. Yet pride makes them almost impossible to speak.
As we near the end of this fast, ask yourself honestly: Has pride created or maintained any division in your relationships? Is there someone you need to humble yourself before? Don’t let pride rob you of unity’s blessing.
Prayer Focus: Ask God to root out pride and cultivate genuine humility in your heart and throughout our ministry.
