HH Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div
Teach us to number our days my brothers and sisters of The Mystical Order and our Associates. The hymn writer declares “Days and moments are quickly flying, blend the living with the dead”. Did I hear “soon will you and I be lying each within a narrow bed”. Each passing day I get worried about making a backward step and Christ should come at that moment. I really don’t know about you but I will use this medium to get the message over to you. We are not getting younger and our lives are playing out before us daily.
There are moments; there are days when I sense my whole life before me. I see the circle of life and death. I see a young baby who grows up into manhood. It is the way of life, and yet it is ever unfolding. This life we lead is so fleeting and ever-changing. Lord give us a heart of wisdom so that we would number our days.
I see an older man living his days out as he always has, but the signs of age and sorrow have weighed heavily upon him. He has lived his life in service to the Lord and has always been there for others. He is alone now, and his memories both those of tears and joy, are ever before him.
This life we lead is so fleeting and ever-changing. Lord give us a heart of wisdom so that we would number our days. And there are others whose paths have changed, and they are now upon another course. Those whose jobs have been lost, and now they return to a place from where they started years earlier. This life we lead is so fleeting and ever-changing. Lord give us a heart of wisdom so that we would number our days.
And there is the one that has stood beside me. The one that many of us love to marry. He who finds a wife finds a good thing. But Jesus is more precious than fine gold or silver. This life we lead is so fleeting and ever-changing. Lord give us a heart of wisdom so that we would number our days.
Children grow up and marry, and find a life of their own. And they too, have children, and the process continues. The river of life flows on by us as it always has. We saw it when we were much younger, and yet it is still there as it always was, as a reminder of days gone by spent in the sunshine and rain. This life we lead is so fleeting and ever-changing. Lord give us a heart of wisdom so that we would number our days.
Many continue going about this life of theirs as they always have, and yet they too see each stage, each year cause changes as they grow and age. And yet because of the busyness of life, many don’t even take the time to stop and see where they’ve come from, and where they’re going. This life we lead is so fleeting and ever-changing. Lord give us a heart of wisdom so that we would number our days.
Selah.
