HH, Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.” (Psalm 37:7).
It is a very suggestive thought that it is in the Gospel of Mark, which is the Gospel of service, we hear the Master saying to His disciples, “Come ye apart into a desert place, and rest awhile.” God wants rested workers. There is an energy that may be tireless and ceaseless, and yet still as the ocean’s depth, with the peace of God, which passes all understanding. The two deepest secrets of rest are, first, to be in harmony with the will of God, and, secondly, to trust.
“Great peace have they that love Thy law,” expresses the first. “Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee because he trusteth in Thee,” describes the second. There is a good deal in learning to “stay.” Sometimes we forget that it literally means to stop.
It is a great blessing even to stop all thought, and this is frequently the only way to answer the devil’s whirlwind of irritating questions and thoughts, to be absolutely still and refuse to even think, and meet his evil voice with a simple and everlasting “No!” If we will be still God will give us peace.
The problem with believers today are the same as the children of Israel after they left Egypt under the leadership of Moses. They do not know how to wait and relax. They love to complain and propose that they can do it better. Every job is not for you and some jobs call for relaxation and then action. O, Isreal was and still is a rebellious nation and so the believers are a rebellious house.
You may dress nice and fancy as you walk into the doors of the place of worship, but your hearts are not indicted in a good matter. Your hearts are filled and running over with hatred, envy, jealousy, malice, pleasures of this world and I can go on to quote Timothy to the church. You know it and so do I and yet we want to lead with our lives filled with corruption. This message is for this writer and all who will ever get to read it. One day we will be going to a place prepared from the very foundation of this world but not in the current condition. We have to make the necessary changes through the process of repentance and allow God to cleanse us for this journey.
This is the time and now is for the harvest is ripe and the labourers are very few.
