COURAGE TO BEGIN AGAIN

Dear Seekers of Truth,

How many times have you started a spiritual practice with enthusiasm, maintained it for a period, and then somehow let it slip away? How often have you committed to prayer, meditation, study, or service, only to find weeks later that life’s demands have crowded out your good intentions? How frequently have you disappointed yourself by falling short of the standards you set, by repeating patterns you vowed to break, by returning to habits you thought you had conquered?

If you are feeling discouraged by your perceived failures, if you are tempted to give up because you have “failed” so many times before, I have one message for you today: begin again. Right now. This very moment. Not tomorrow, not Monday, not after you feel more prepared or more worthy. Now.

The spiritual path is not about perfection. It has never been about perfection. It is about direction, about returning again and again to your intention despite how many times you drift away. Think of it like learning to walk as a child—you fell countless times, yet you never concluded, “I’m just not a walker. Walking isn’t for me.” You simply got up and tried again. This is the attitude required for spiritual growth.

Every master was once a beginner who refused to quit. Every saint had moments of doubt, failure, and falling. What distinguished them was not that they never fell but that they always rose again. They understood a truth I want you to engrain deeply in your consciousness: there is no failure in the spiritual life except the failure to continue trying. As long as you rise one more time than you fall, you are succeeding.

Perhaps you have been away from your meditation practice for months. Begin again today with just five minutes. Perhaps you have neglected your spiritual reading. Begin again today with just one paragraph. Perhaps you have fallen back into patterns of negative thinking or harmful behavior. Begin again today with just one conscious choice differently. Small beginnings are still beginnings, and every journey of a thousand miles truly does start with a single step.

Release the burden of past failures. They are gone, dissolved into the past where they can no longer harm you unless you carry them forward through regret and self-condemnation. Each moment offers a fresh start, a new opportunity, a clean slate. The Divine does not keep score of your mistakes. Why should you? The only moment that matters is this one, and in this moment, you can choose alignment, you can choose growth, you can choose to take one step, however small, in the direction of your highest self.

I have supreme confidence in you. Not because you are perfect, but because you are persistent. Begin again, beloved one. Begin again.

With unwavering faith in you,

Your Patriarch Gregg
