FROM THE DESK OF THE ARCHBISHOP AND APOSTOLIC HEAD
Sir Dr. Godfrey Gregg
To Thee O, Lord I give You praise and thanks for all your blessings on us your children. The God who has brought us to this place of love and grace. A place where we often meet to talk to You and tell You all of our trials, our pain and sufferings. We are here today to seek your compassion and forgiveness.
To my Leader and head of The Mystical Order # 1 & 2 and all our ministers at home and abroad. I thank God for keeping you under the shadow of His wings and for the peace that passeth all understanding. It is truly a day to thank you and bless your Holy Name.
Turn with me in your bibles to Psalm 86: and verse 15. As we read I want to talk to you on the subject.
A GOD OF COMPASSION
But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion (Psalm 86:15)
But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. (Matthew 9: 36)
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion towards them, and he healed their sick. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth His hand, and touched him, and saith to him, I will, be thou clean. And when the Lord saw her, He hadcompassion on her, and said unto her weep not.
But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother hath need, and shutteth up his bowels ofcompassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
Over the last little while the Lord has began to show me the state of being in which He resides—His state of being is who He is—and He has taught me that if my spirit is to dwell where He is in all of the fullness of His glory, and be a companion of His forever, then my spirit has to reside in the same state of being as His spirit, and it is never the other way around. We as children of God will have to find our true place in Him to reside.
He has taught me that we must understand this and come to the consciousness of His state of being, and the state of being of the entire host of heaven who are continually companions of His; and what it will take on our part to again become a part of the host of heaven. (Jesus said, be ye perfect as I am perfect) do you know what he is saying? He is simply telling us that we must be like Him to be a part of this Heavenly re-union. This means laying aside all the things that will weigh us down and these includes malice, hatred, jealousy, evil communications, and a host of other things.
I have been dropping hints about the state of being of God—how He exists in spiritual perfection, and for us to approach Him in heaven, we must be in that same state of being that He is in. I have spoken to you so much about His state of being that I know you are tired of hearing about it and I wish He would move on.
When the Lord started revealing His state of being to me, He always started with compassion—compassion is the consciousness of the suffering, the pain, the hurt, the frustration of others that moves one to give aid and support and to show mercy to them.
As the Lord worked with me, he lifted me far enough out of self, that I was able to see the broad outlines of Him: He showed me that He resides in a state of compassion, that compassion is the core of His divine nature—that He does not have to come to compassion, but it is His state of being. What we are talking about now is nothing new, He just stoops a little lower to reach us and lift us up on His everlasting arms. Hallelujah. I hope that I am numbered with the few. You know if we are willing and obedient we are going to reap if we faint not…..
You and I have to come to compassion, we have to learn compassion, and after we find it, after we come to it, we slip in and out of it—but God resides continually in a state of compassion—and to reach where He is, to reside where He is, one must continually reside in a state ofcompassion.
How do you do that? Compassion comes out of ones divine nature, there is no compassion in human nature, there may be some pity in human nature, but not compassion, compassion has to come out of our divine nature, but our divine nature is often held in subjugation by our human nature—the good I would do I do not, but the evil that I would not, that I do. I talk to you about this before and several times ago. This is the nature of man I am talking about, and I will love you to consider the things we get involved in. Before we move to hurt someone consider the divine nature of compassion.
If it comes out of our divine nature then it is more a matter of consciousness, of being conscious always of who we are—the devil specializes in making us forget who we are; why, every now and then I have to remember that I am a preacher/minister, your Archbishop and I must hold that spirit that is not like God in check.
Compassion is mentioned 21 times in the Old Testament, and 20 times in the New Testament in the older translations—but in some of the newer translations they substitute pity, or mercy, in some places where compassion is found in the older translations; and that makes us lose consciousness of compassion that is the foremost state of the being of God. The word always say that Jesus had compassion on people; what the word is saying is that Jesus resided in a state of being compassionate all the time.
And you notice that this state of being compassion caused Him to always be able to supply the needs of those whom he had compassion on. Compassion finds a way to remedy every situation one way or another even if it has to do so in a miraculous way.
We come and go where compassion is concerned, but when you look at all the verses that I read in your hearing you will see that compassion is the watch word of Jesus and a very central part of what we ought to be about while we are here in the earth.
Jesus made it the center of his existence while He was here; and even His last act while He was here in the flesh was an act of compassion—He looked down from the cross and saw those who crucified Him, and others that jeered while He hung dying on the cross, and He prayed to God, Father forgive them for they know not what they do—that is an extreme act of compassion, to forgive the causers of His pain and His death is an extreme act of compassion.
So that says to me, that there is no injury to anyone in compassion, there is no ill will towards any one in compassion—but more than that, nothing and no one can draw us out ofcompassion unless we let them, Jesus would not let them draw Him out of the state of being compassionate even through the most unbearable pain He suffered on the cross because of them. We have to let go and forget the wrongs that others have done to us, and be compassionate to them. Let us pray “Father forgive them”, and make a way for them to find peace in their hearts.
The Cross is our example even when Jesus was dying He still had compassion and I want to follow His example. Even in the last moment and on our dying bed let us be compassionate to others and rest peaceable with ourselves. I will love you and always seek God to inspire me to encourage you. Have wonderful day in the Lord.
