Day 7 – March 22: Speaking Life Into Unity
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” – Ephesians 4:29
Words have creative power. God spoke the universe into existence with words. Jesus is called the Word made flesh. Our words, too, carry the power of life and death, the power to build up or tear down, the power to unite or divide.
Gossip is a cancer in the body of Christ. It spreads quickly, infects deeply, and destroys silently. One negative conversation in a parking lot can undo months of pastoral care. One critical text message can create a ripple effect of discord that touches dozens of relationships. The enemy knows this, which is why he works overtime to get believers talking about each other rather than to each other.
But the inverse is equally true: words of affirmation, encouragement, and blessing can heal wounds, restore relationships, and strengthen unity. When you speak well of your brother or sister, even in their absence, you’re building unity. When you choose to address concerns directly and privately rather than broadcasting them publicly, you’re protecting unity. When you refuse to participate in critical conversations, you’re defending unity.
The standard Paul gives us is clear: only speak words that edify and minister grace. Before you speak, ask yourself three questions: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? If you can’t answer yes to all three, remain silent.
Over these next days, commit to a fast not just from food but from negative speech. Refuse to gossip. Refuse to complain. Refuse to criticize. Instead, intentionally speak life, blessing, and encouragement over The Mystical Order Ministries and its members.
Prayer Focus: Pray for God to set a guard over your mouth and to give you words that build rather than tear down.
