It’s necessary
If Jesus felt it was necessary to fast as He entered into a new season of ministry, we also should have that mindset
Luke 4:1-2, 14 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
Verse 1 says that He was filled with the Holy Spirit and then led by the Holy Spirit for a time of separation of fasting and prayer. Verse 14 says He returned from that experience in the power of the Holy Spirit. In the same manner, fasting and praying will release the power of God to flow through your life.
There is your example of God who was made flesh and fasted to show us the way. You fast to receive and nothing shorter than the power from on high.
