THE POTTER’S HANDS

Guided by His Eminence, Archbishop and Presiding Prelate Sir Andres B. Quow

May the grace of our Lord be upon you. In our journey of faith, we often encounter seasons that feel confusing and painful, where the path seems obscured and the pressure intense. In these moments, it is easy to question God’s purpose and plan. Yet, the Scriptures offer us a beautiful and comforting metaphor to illuminate these experiences: the image of the potter and the clay.

The prophet Jeremiah was directed to the potter’s house, where he observed a profound spiritual truth: “But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.” (Jeremiah 18:4). His Eminence, Sir Andres B. Quow, often reflects on this passage, teaching that our lives are in the hands of the Master Potter. The marring is not a sign of rejection, but an opportunity for re-creation. The pressure we feel is not meant to destroy us, but to shape us into a vessel “as seems best to Him.”

We are the clay, and God is the potter (Isaiah 64:8). Our role is not to struggle and demand to know why we are being pressed in a certain way, but to remain soft, pliable, and trusting in the hands of the One who knows the final, beautiful design. A lump of clay cannot see the vision of the potter; it can only yield to his skilled touch. Similarly, we must trust that the pressures, the twists, and the seasons of waiting are all part of a divine process, shaping us into a vessel of honour, fit for the Master’s use (2 Timothy 2:21).

Today, if you are in the furnace of affliction or on the potter’s wheel, do not harden your heart. Surrender to the process. Whisper the prayer of trust: “Not my will, but Yours be done.” Remember that the Potter’s hands are hands of infinite wisdom, love, and skill. He is not haphazardly moulding you; He is intentionally crafting you into a unique vessel of His glory, designed for a purpose that only you can fulfil. Yield to His touch, for what He shapes is always beautiful.

Amen.
