THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION

Guided by His Holiness, Patriarch and Presiding Prelate Sir Godfrey Gregg

Greetings in the name of the Prince of Peace. We live in a world fractured by division—in our communities, our families, and even within our own hearts. The enemy sows discord, but God has given His people a sacred mission: the ministry of reconciliation. The Apostle Paul declares this with profound clarity: “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18).

His Holiness, Sir Godfrey Gregg, powerfully emphasizes that this ministry begins vertically before it moves horizontally. We cannot give what we do not have. We are first reconciled to God through the atoning work of Christ, our broken relationship with the Father is healed, and we are brought from enmity to intimacy. This personal experience of reconciliation is the well from which we must draw to minister to a broken world. Having received this immeasurable grace, we are now commissioned as ambassadors, representing Heaven’s peace to earthly conflicts.

This ministry requires humility, courage, and a heart of compassion. It calls us to be bridge-builders, to tear down walls of hostility that separate people from one another and from God. It may mean taking the first step toward forgiveness, even when we feel justified in our hurt. It may mean listening to understand, rather than to rebut. It is the work of embodying Ephesians 2:14, for “He himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.”

As you go about your week, look for the opportunities, both large and small, to be an agent of reconciliation. Is there a relationship in your life that needs mending? Is there a conversation that needs the balm of grace? Do not underestimate the power of a gentle word, a listening ear, or a posture of humility. You are an ambassador for Christ, and God is making His appeal through you. Let your life be a testament to the unifying power of the Gospel.

Amen.
