Guided by the Patriarch and Chief Apostle His All Holiness, Sir Darrindel Hoyte-Johnson
Beloved, we are engaged in a constant spiritual conflict, not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers of darkness. In this battle, our own strength is insufficient. But thanks be to God, who does not leave us defenceless! He has provided a complete and invincible armour for our protection and victory. The Apostle Paul urges us, “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.” (Romans 13:12).
His All Holiness, Sir Darrindel Hoyte-Johnson, teaches that this “armour of light” is not a passive garment but an active, daily putting on of the very nature and truth of Christ. To walk in the armour of light is to live a life of radical transparency, holiness, and truth, which dispels darkness simply by its presence. Each piece of armour detailed in Ephesians 6—the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit—is an aspect of our identity in Christ that we must consciously appropriate.
This is not a ritual, but a reliance. Putting on the breastplate of righteousness means trusting in Christ’s imputed righteousness, not our own, to protect our hearts from condemnation. Taking up the shield of faith is actively trusting God’s promises in the face of the enemy’s lies. The armour is effective only because it is His armour. We are cloaking ourselves in His divine attributes. As we do this, we become not only protected but also powerful, able to stand firm against all the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11).
Therefore, let us begin each day with intentionality. Do not venture into the world spiritually naked. Prayerfully gird your mind with truth, guard your heart with righteousness, steady your walk with the gospel’s peace, extinguish every fiery dart with faith, secure your thoughts with salvation, and wield the Word of God with precision. Clothe yourself in the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14), and walk forth as a child of light, for the darkness is passing, and the true light is already shining.
