Morning Devotions: “I Am My Brother’s Keeper”

This week, our devotion will be on the topic “I am my brother’s Keeper

Day 9 — November 9, 2025
Scripture: Matthew 25:40
“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”

Reflection
Jesus identifies Himself with the vulnerable—the hungry, the imprisoned, the marginalized. To serve the “least of these” is to serve Christ Himself. Your role as keeper extends to every member of His body, regardless of status or proximity. When a brother-in-Christ languishes in poverty or despair, your act of mercy becomes worship at the feet of the King.

Being your brother’s keeper under Matthew 25 demands sacrificial love. You cross thresholds of discomfort—offering meals to the homeless, visiting inmates, mentoring at-risk youth—because each face bears the imprint of the Saviour. This service is rarely self-serving. It risks reputation, drains resources, and tests emotions. Yet it enacts the Gospel’s power, transforming both the server and the served.

In a world obsessed with efficiency and metrics, kingdom service measures success by compassion, not numbers. Christ’s judgment focuses on the depth of mercy, not the breadth of outreach. A single loaf of bread given with love tips the scales in heaven. As you step into these opportunities—whether at a soup kitchen or a neighbour’s door—remember that you are becoming an instrument of divine love, extending your brotherhood into unlikely places.
Call to Action

  1. Find a local opportunity to serve “the least of these” this week—food pantry, prison ministry, or refugee support.
  2. Commit at least two hours and approach each person as Christ Himself.
  3. After serving, journal how you encountered Jesus in the faces you helped.
    Prayer
Lord of Compassion, teach me to see Your face in the least and the lost. Grant me courage to serve without calculation, that each act of mercy may honour You and draw hearts into Your kingdom. Amen.
