A CALL TO UNITY AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

A Call to Unity and Righteousness: Stop the Gossip, Embrace the Light

Beloved brethren in Christ,

It is with a heavy heart that I address the growing cancer of gossip and rumour-mongering among us—those who should know better. The Word of God is clear: our steps are ordered by the Lord (Psalm 37:23), and we are called to be Kingdom builders, not dividers. When we engage in gossip, we are not serving God, but the enemy of our souls. The Apostle Paul warns us in 2 Timothy 4:3-4: “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

Gossip is not harmless chatter; it is a tool of the devil to sow discord, destroy trust, and weaken the Body of Christ. Proverbs 16:28 reminds us: “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.” When we spread rumours, we are not walking in love or in the light of Christ. Instead, we are stumbling in darkness, causing pain and division where God desires unity and peace.

Ephesians 4:29 commands us: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Our words should heal, not wound; uplift, not tear down. We are called to be ambassadors of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:20), not messengers of strife.

Let us remember the words of James 1:26: “Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” Our faith is not measured by our rituals or our titles, but by the fruit of our lips and the love in our hearts.

Brethren, I urge you: watch your steps. Let the Word of God be a lantern to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Clothe yourselves with the armor of God (Ephesians 6:11-18), and let your words be seasoned with grace (Colossians 4:6). Put on the cover of protection—the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, and the shield of faith—to extinguish the fiery darts of the enemy.

Let us embrace one another in love, for we are all part of the same body (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). Romans 16:17 warns us: “I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.” We must stand firm in the truth and reject the works of darkness.

I stand with you, my brothers and sisters, and I pray for a spirit of unity and discernment to fill our hearts. Let us be known as a people who build up, not tear down; who speak life, not death; who walk in the light, not in the shadows of gossip.

1 Peter 4:8 says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” Let love be our guide, and let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts (Colossians 3:15).

Take warning, beloved. The Lord is watching, and He calls us to higher ground. Let us repent, turn away from these destructive ways, and commit ourselves to being true Kingdom builders.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
