GOD KNOWS OUR THOUGHTS

HH, Sir Godfrey Grergg D.Div

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Psalm 139:2

Despite what some may believe, it is humanly impossible to know exactly what another person is thinking—to “read people’s minds,” as the saying goes-and honestly, being able to read others’ minds would probably create far more problems than it could possibly solve.

But there is One who knows our every thought, which King David acknowledged when he wrote of his God, “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14 NIV).

That’s an example of the proverbial two-edged sword, isn’t it? On the one hand, we are grateful that God knows everything about us, even our thoughts, and still loves us anyway. On the other hand, we all have those moments when we’d probably prefer that He didn’t know about our ugly, angry; lustful, doubting thoughts.

Knowing that God is well aware of every thought we think is at once a cause for gratefulness for His unconditional love for His people and also great motivation to heed the Bible’s admonition to “guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).

Loving heavenly Father, thank You for loving me, even when my thoughts aren’t on what they should be. Please help me to think only about the things that please You.
