Within the Holy of Holies sat one item; the Ark of the Covenant.
On the top of the Ark was a covering of solid gold known as the Mercy Seat. This was the place where God Himself dwelled.
It was in the Holy of Holies that the High Priest, and only the High Priest, would come into His presence once a year on Yom Kippur or, (the Day of Atonement), to sprinkle the blood of the sacrifice onto the Mercy Seat and make atonement for himself, his family and the people of Israel.
The High Priest would meet with God at the Mercy Seat and speak with God (and God with him) this one time each year.
Only this one man, only this one time per year.
God’s presence was hidden behind a thick veil.
Today each of us can go to God and speak on our own behalf. Hallelujah. The veil was torn and removed which has given access for whosoever will. Amen
