“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.”—Daniel 12:3
I heard the other day from one pollster that the average American will have spent 15 years in front of the television during his or her lifetime. Can you imagine fifteen years of sitting in front of that box, clicking away? What a waste of life. How much time do we spend looking at the phone screen texting and doing things that are unbecoming? How much time do we spend on the phone gossiping about your brothers and sisters? How much more time is wasted doing things that God has no pleasure in?
The Caribbean Islands are no different since most individual carry a cellphone for each carrier. Televisions fill the walls and the children on tablets in every corner. Technology has taken over the world and every nation is competing with the other to be the best in the latest gadgets. What we need today is men and women living for Jesus that will shine wherever you go. That is what God wants of us in these times, so on that day, we can say it is well with my soul.
On the other hand, the Bible speaks of many rewards in Heaven for the person who faithfully serves the Lord during his or her lifetime and even speaks of crowns that will be given. In fact, I think we might be shocked when the awards are presented in Heaven. We may expect them to go to all the big names that we know. But just imagine if most of the awards were given to someone you never heard alive. You hadn’t heard about that individual. Someone who never pastored a church. Someone who never recorded Christian music. Someone who never wrote a book. But that individual used the gifts that God gave him or her. Maybe God called that individual to be a person of prayer. Maybe they laboured in obscurity somewhere. But God saw them and rewarded them.
When you get to Heaven, what will you have to show for your life on this earth? Every man will be tried. Every woman will be tried. All of your accomplishments will be evaluated when you stand before Christ. It is not so much judgment for sin, but a judgment of time that was spent in a worthless way. Did you have more passion or excitement for your career or for a sport or for your possessions than you had for the things of God? It will all come to nothing. Wasted hours. Wasted days. Wasted years.
