Have you ever received a promise from the Lord and wondered why you haven’t seen it manifest in your life? While God moves in His own timing, we can continue to declare His Word until it comes into existence. God reveals His plans to His people in general and He speaks specifically to those who are seeking Him for a Word for their personal lives. Through prayer, reading the Bible and meditating on His Word, God will give us specific directions for our lives.
In order for God’s decree (His authoritative order or command) to come into existence, God tells us to “declare” it, which means to proclaim it by speaking it out loud. Job 22:28 says, “You will also decree a thing and it will be established for you, and light will shine upon Your ways.” Hallelujah
Why do we speak God’s Word out loud? Because hearing God’s decree over our lives, activates our faith in God and our confidence that He is going to move on our behalf. Speaking His Word out loud also pushes out the negative thoughts and nagging doubts and the unbelief that will enter our minds while we are waiting for God’s Words to manifest in our lives.
Why do we have to speak God’s Word as oppose to what we want to speak? When we speak God’s Word, we are in alignment with Him and we want to be in agreement with Him because He is the One who will bring His promises to pass in our lives. If we speak our own words nothing will happen unless we make it happen, and that can turn into disaster, especially when we have no idea what we’re doing!
So, how do we know what to speak if we haven’t yet received a direct revelation from the Lord? We can begin by declaring Scriptures, which are the authoritative Word of God.
Scripture-based declarations position us to receive instructions from God. For instance, if we are in need of something specific, we can quote Philippians 4:19, My God shall supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Declaring this Scripture increases our faith to believe God for our specific need. It directs our focus upward and makes us aware that it is God who will take care of us. In doing this, our faith and trust in God increases.
We can continue declaring this Word while we ask God, “What do You want me to declare about my specific situation?” This is where revelation-based declarations come into play.
God’s Holy Spirit will reveal to us a specific declaration to make that will bring a change in our personal circumstances. For instance, if you have a financial debt that has now become a burden and you don’t see how you are going to pay it off, God’s Spirit may direct you to declare, “Father, in the Name of Jesus, I declare that my debt is cancelled because You supply all of my needs. I have more than enough for the Lord is causing me to increase.” Remember, God will show you what you are to say or declare that will take care of your need.
While this may sound easy, it is sometimes difficult to do because we have to declare the Word of the Lord even when we do not see immediate changes in our circumstances. However, the more we declare the Word of the Lord into our circumstances, the more confidence we build in God and in His Word. In these times, it helps us to remember that God always honours the promises He made to us, which is why we must speak His Words and not our own.
Speaking the specific authoritative Word or decree that God has given us can be compared to using a bow and arrow. A person with a bow and arrow has a specific target in sight. In your case, the target is your specific need. The person aims his bow and arrow at the target. In your case, your bow and arrow is God’s Word that is aimed at your specific need. Once the target is in sight, the person releases his arrow and hits the bulls eye. In your case, you release God’s Word from your mouth and it directly hits your circumstances.
As we declare God’s Words, the spiritual or invisible realm, will align with our words and we will create what we desire to see in the natural or visible realm. If we remember to speak the Scriptures as well as declare the direct Word that God has revealed to us for our particular situation, we will see a complete shift in our circumstances if we do not give up.
