Armour of GodThis morning I thank God that we are alive and well and we are above and not below. We are the head and not the tail. We are alive and on the land of the living to offer praise and thanks. My brothers and sisters in the Lord and the power of His might. Give the Lord some thanks this morning for watching over us and keeping us alive.Let us strive from this day forward to do our best and to live for Him who died for all. God bless us and keep trusting Him.
Lately a certain phrase from an old song has been in my mind. The phrase is – “the arm of flesh will fail you.” As many of you know, that phrase comes from the hymn, ‘Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus!’

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in His strength alone,
The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own;
Put on the gospel armor, and watching unto prayer,
Where calls the voice of duty, be never wanting there.
The theme of the song is spiritual warfare. Such warfare is described for us in Ephesians 6

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:10-12 NLT)

According to Paul, as followers of Christ, we are in a great spiritual war with the forces of evil. We see that they are described as: evil rulers, authorities of the unseen world, mighty powers in this dark world and evil spirits in the heavenly places. In other words, we are fighting every evil force imaginable in every place imaginable. We do not have to look too far for the answer, for right amongst us evil is forever present. There are those that pretend to love you and behind your back they set out to destroy your very existence. But I am praying that the faith of my brothers and sisters fail not and you must strengthen one another with the word of God. Some people are good pretending and beneath that smile of acceptance is the sting of the enemy. However, those that set out to do you harm will come to realize one day that they are up against a brick wall. You see, my brothers and sisters God anoints you to serve Him and He will protect you. Balaam did all in his power to curse the children of Israel until his foot was crushed against a wall. The dumb animal spoke to him afterwards. God will not take you where He cannot protect you. Believe it today or perish.

I don’t know about you, but often I find the enemy getting the advantage on me. Somehow he finds a way to invade my heart and mind and cause me to fail the Lord. I tell myself that I will never be that way again; yet I am. Recently that was the case and that’s when the phrase – “the arm of flesh will fail you” came to my mind. I cannot depend upon my good intentions to get me through. I must be clothed in the armor of God’s power. Hallelujah, and with Christ in my vessel I am able to smile at the storms.

I like something that I recently heard a brother minister – ‘Putting on the spiritual armor is actually putting on Christ.’ Paul writes in Romans 13:14 – “Clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.” In other words, wrap Christ around every part of your life. He is your victory. He is your power. He is your strength. He is your all in all. This is the Christ that never fails, but stands with you anytime you call on Him.

Perhaps this illustration will help us better understand. Let’s suppose that every day we had to face a certain bully. He continually mocked us and threatened to beat us up. We could try to avoid him, yet he would find us. We could try to ignore him, yet he can’t be ignored. We could try to take him on ourselves, but most likely if we did, we would lose. What should we do?

Let’s suppose also that close by is a Friend who is able to help us. He can easily defeat the bully. Perhaps pride would keep us from calling upon our Friend, yet that would be very foolish. He is our only hope. We could wait until we meet the bully and then call for our Friend to help us. Or, even better, we could ask our Friend to walk with us throughout the day; therefore, if and when we meet the bully, we could immediately have the victory.

Tomorrow we will return to this subject once again and consider the various parts of the Christian armor. But for today, take a moment and clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ. Put Christ in your motives and Christ in our mind. Put Christ in your heart and Christ in your hand. Let Christ guide the feet that take you and let Christ guard the feet that come against you. Let Christ be your life and let Christ be your love. As Paul said, “Clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
