GETTING THE RIGHT PEOPLE FOR THE JOURNEY

20151106_222938Praise the Lord for this morning. Now I wake and see the light, God has kept me through the night. Many of you remembers that prayer from grandma. It made sense that time and still the same today. What is the reason behind it? My brothers and sisters in the Lord wake up and see the sunshine not on the earth but in your hearts.

At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles. — Luke 6:13

A popular business book states that effective organizations get the right people on the bus, meaning the right people in places of leadership. When the right people are in the strategic roles, the company can ascend to any height. But, if the wrong people are on the bus, the organization is doomed to flounder regardless of the vision, values, strategies, marketing, and management of the leadership.

Putting the right people in the right place at the right time is a critical need for an effective leader. Select the right people, and churches, business, and organizations thrive. Select the wrong people, and the door swings open for problems that stifle growth and productivity and hurt credibility. As I write I am searching myself and trying to see where I went wrong and how to fix the wrong. As I try to compare this earthly journey with that of Jesus I pray that you will get the understanding of the message. This is not a personal message but one that we can learn and do better.

The concern of Jesus was not about programs or structure or organization but about people. Jesus selected his disciples before he ever organized an evangelistic campaign or even preached a sermon in public. People were to be his method of reaching the world. It was just that simple. So today I want you to understand that people come to ministry for lots of reasons. Yes they do and then they jump or the trail and heavens knows where they will land. But stand fast and wait on the Lord and you shall mount up with wings as an eagle you shall walk and not faint, run and never weary. Wait I say on the Lord.

No evidence of haste is apparent in Jesus’ selection process, only determination. Initially one might wonder if Jesus selected the right people for the right job. They lacked the professional training, academic training, and sophistication of their day. One might wonder how Jesus could ever use them. They were not the kind of people one would expect to turn the world upside down. But as it turned out, these men became the leaders of the early church. Their influence can be felt throughout the pages of history. Jesus got the right people on the bus. I tried but I am growing to be like Jesus. We never get it right all the time and it is not a sign of weakness. God will in His time bring everything to pass on His terms.

As a leader you would do well to select people that display these qualities:

CallingThey are motivated by something deep within themselves, not by the accomplishments of outward adornments.

Character–They possess a high standard of living based on a personal code of morality that doesn’t succumb to the whim of the moment or the dictates of the majority. If they can follow directions , the door is open and you can leave. God will fill the space in His time.

Commitment–They display spiritual authenticity over time. They must be true to themselves and willing to surrender to the will of the Father.

CompatibilityThey show a job fit, a relational fit, a skill fit, and a passion fit.

Contribution–They function as a part of a team. Unfortunately some people are not ready for the journey and they faint by the way. They seem to be a copy of the original, climbing on the shoulders of others to reach the top until the support is removed and then the fall.

CoachabilityThey are trainable and teachable. Some you cannot train or teach. They follow their own agenda but can they fill the shoes of a leader?

Get the right people on the bus, and it makes all the difference in the world. Today my mission is renewed to get the right people for the journey. I am ready and thank God for His word that He is more than able to work with us. God bless and have a great day.
