Let us turn to our scripture taken from Luke 8:22-26 As we conclude this message I trust that you received something for your soul. My brothers and sisters in Christ it is the will of the Lord that this website http://www.mysticalorderinc.org continue to bring messages of salvation to the hungry. Let us pray that God will keep this avenue open to minister to souls.
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
The disciples learned some things through the storm that they might not have learned any other way.
A. They learned something about their faith (Luke 8:25)
When Jesus asked, “Where is your faith?” He asked a good question. I don’t know where their faith was, but I know where it wasn’t. Their faith may have been in the size of the boat, to withstand the storm. Their faith may have been in their ability to out-row the storm. Their faith may have been in the strength of their anchor. I don’t know where their faith was, but I know where it wasn’t: It wasn’t in Christ. They learned something about their faith from the storm, and we do too! When God sends a storm my way, I see how many different things I’ve been leaning on!
What if Jesus asked us this morning, “Where is your faith?” Some would have to answer, “My Father is in my circumstances being just right. But they rarely are!
Others would confess that their faith is in people responding just so. But they rarely do! Some people’s faith is only in the pleasures that this life can offer? But, they’re so short lived. Many only have faith in their finances and in the things money can buy. But they don’t satisfy.
B. They learned something about their future (Luke 8:26)
They did get to the other side! God wasn’t through with them yet. He had something else for them beyond the storm. And when the storms of the life beat down on us, we need to realize that there is life beyond the storm. God is not finished with us yet.
Few years ago there were awful hurricane that rode the eastern coast of the United States dubbed “Super Storm Sandy”. We know of the devastation it caused to New Jersey, New York and Long Island. Many people in the path described the awful noise of the storm to be like an uncontrolled monster that nearly made a person deaf. The damage left in the storm’s trail were unimaginable. The communities are still trying to rebuild. Yes the Caribbean had it full share like St. Vincent and the Grenadines and recently Dominica. In all the incidents I mentioned there were lost of lives, homes and infrastructure. “Yes, it was awful. Some people lost everything, and they’ll have to start all over. But the good news is — it’s brought families back together again. They are closer than ever. The communities are banding together like they’ve never seen before. Do you know what they are saying? They are saying, “They benefited from the storm.” Can God really do that? Do you believe He can do it for you? It tells us how much we have to prepare and with open hearts. We just do not know when disaster will strike. Therefore, in our spiritual lives we must be also ready for we do not know the minute or the hour when the Son of God will pay us a visit or herald the call to come home. One thing I know is sure and death will not look back. God is preparing to do a work. Are you ready to receive?
