I AM A CHRISTIAN

Beautiful Poem by Maya Angelou

When I say that ‘I am a Christian’, I am not shouting that ‘I am clean living. I’m whispering ‘I was lost, but now I’m found and forgiven.’

When I say ‘I am a Christian’, I don’t speak of this with pride. I’m confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’, I’m not trying to be strong. I’m professing that I’m weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’, I’m not bragging of success. I’m admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’, I’m not claiming to be perfect. My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’, I still feel the sting of pain. I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say ‘I am a Christian’, I’m not holier than thou, I’m just a simple sinner who received God’s good grace, somehow!

Today is Beautiful Christian Person’s Day.

Pretty is as Pretty does but, Beautiful is just plain Beautiful..

OPEN AND RECEIVE

Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div

Receive All He Has For You

“Look from the place where thou art, northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it” (Genesis 13:14-15).

No instinct can be put in you by the Holy Ghost but He purposes to fulfill. Let your faith then rise and soar away and claim all the land you can discover.

All you can apprehend in the vision of faith is your own. Look as far as you can, for it is all yours. All that you long to be a Christian, all that you long to do for God, are within the possibilities of faith. Then come, still closer, and with your Bible before you, and your soul open to all the influences of the Spirit, let your whole being receive the baptism of His presence; and as He opens your understanding to see all His fulness, believe He has it all for you. Accept for yourself all the promises of His word, all the desires He awakens within you, all the possibilities of what you may be as a follower of Jesus. All the land you see is given to you.

The actual provisions of His grace come from the inner vision. He who puts the instinct in the bosom of yonder bird to cross the continent in search of summer sunshine in the Southern climate is too good to receive it, and just as surely as He has put the instinct in its breast, so has He also put the balmy breezes and the vernal sunshine yonder to meet it when it arrives.

He who breathes into our hearts the heavenly hope, will not deceive or fail us when we press forward to its realization.

“And they found he had said unto them” (Luke 22:13).

WHERE IS YOUR STRENGTH?

And he was sore athirst, and called on the Lord, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? Judges 15:18

It had been a great victory. With the jawbone of an ass, Samson had smitten a thousand men. But he knew where to attribute the glory. It was not he, but the Spirit of the Lord which had come mightily upon him. This is distinctly recognized when he called unto God, and said, “Thou hast given this great deliverance by my hand.” It was because he had been expending his strength for God, had been, so to speak, burned up by the Divine fire, that he was able to claim God’s interposition for his thirst.

This is the great law of prayer. We have no right to count on God in the agony of a crisis, unless we have been walking in fellowship with Him previously, or are exhausted in fighting His battles. There is nothing that we may not claim to Him when we are living in the current of His life, or when we are exhausted in His service. “Thou hast given this great deliverance by the hand of thy servant; and now shall I die for thirst?”

God’s springs burst out in unlikely spots. He is never at a loss. If there is no natural spring, He can create one. If all around the mighty rocks reflect the sultry heat, and our spirit seems on the point of exhaustion, then in the wilderness He will cause streams to break out. Be of good courage, fainting warrior! The God who made thee, and has used thee, knows thy frame, and what thou needest before thou askest. Hereafter the place shall be known as “the spring of him that called!” He can cause the refreshing stream to pour forth from the flinty rock; He can turn the bitter water sweet for thee to drink thereof; He quenches thy soul-thirst with the water of life.

Brethren this Samson we are talking about was not an ordinary man. He was a real true servant of God. Even in Samson’s darkest moments, God gets the honour and the glory. We may not understand what God is doing, but in the end, we can look back and see the reason for the actions. Continue to study the word of God and read the life of this great man of God. God bless and keep you in His service.

SIGNATURE OF MAN

And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest and ye are gone away: and what have I more? and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee? Judges 18:24

Whatever can be taken from us has the mark and signature of man upon it. Since the Jewish priests were not permitted to continue, by reason of death, it was evident that they were men at the best; and nothing that man makes is adequate to supply the immortal cravings of the soul which, having come from God, craves for God.

Change cannot take away our High Priest. – All around us is in a state of flux. No two days in the most brilliant summer are quite the same. The hues are deepening toward autumnal decay. But He continueth ever and hath an unchangeable priesthood. All that He was years ago, He is still, and will be. What to our forefathers, that to us – ” the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever.”

The concerns of other souls cannot take Him away. – It is not difficult to conceive of the attention of a human priest being diverted from those who once claimed all his help, to fresh interests and younger generations. But, however many they are who flock as doves to the windows of Christ’s mercy, they will never be able to divert an atom of His love and sympathy from us.

Sins and failure cannot rob us of Him. – Indeed, they make Him nearer, dearer, more absolutely necessary. The bands of Danites left Micah wailing: when he wanted the comfort of his priest most, lo, he was gone; but neither principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, can separate us from Him who ever liveth to make intercession. “Having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.”

REMEMBER THE NAME CHANGE

And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. Ruth 1:20

So she spoke, as many have spoken since, not knowing that God’s ways are ways of pleasantness and all His paths peace when they are not isolated from the plan of our life, but considered as parts of the whole. We cannot pronounce on any part of God’s dealing with us until the entire plan has been allowed to work itself out. How grieved God’s Spirit must be, who is lovingly doing His best when He hears these words of murmuring and complaint! Let us lift the vail, and notice the pleasant things in Naomi’s life.

True, her husband and sons were dead; but their deaths in a foreign land had left her free to come back to her people and her God; to nestle again under the wings of Jehovah, and to share the advantages of the Tabernacle.

True, Orpah had gone back. Mahlon and Chilion were both buried in Moab; but she had Ruth, who was better to her than seven sons.

True, she had no male child to perpetuate her name; but the little Obed would, within a few months, be nestling in her aged arms, and laughing into her withered face.

True, she was very poor; but it was through her poverty that Ruth was brought first into contact with that good man, Boaz; and, besides, there was yet a little patrimony which pertained to her.

Yes, Naomi, like thousands more, thou must take back thy words. Thou didst deal bitterly with thine own happiness in leaving the Land of Promise for Moab, but God dealt pleasantly with thee in thy return and latter end. “Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy.”

HIDDEN WORKERS

 Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div

“John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true” (John 10:41).

You may be very discontented with yourself. You are no genius, have no brilliant gifts, and are inconspicuous for any special faculty. Mediocrity is the law of your existence. Your days are remarkable for nothing but sameness and insipidity. Yet you may live a great life.

John did no miracle, but Jesus said that among those born of women there had not appeared a greater than he.

John’s main business was to bear witness to the Light, and this may be yours and mine. John was content to be only a voice if men would think of Christ.

Be willing to be only a voice, heard but not seen; a mirror whose surface is lost to view, because it reflects the dazzling glory of the sun; a breeze that springs up just before daylight, and says, “The dawn! the dawn!” and then dies away.

Do the commonest and smallest things as beneath His eye. If you must live with uncongenial people, set to their conquest by love. If you have made a great mistake in your life, do not let it becloud all of it; but, locking the secret in your breast, compel it to yield strength and sweetness.

We are doing more good than we know, sowing seeds, starting streamlets, giving men true thoughts of Christ, to which they will refer one day as the first things that started them thinking of Him; and, of my part, I shall be satisfied if no great mausoleum is raised over my grave, but that simple soul shall gather there when I am gone, and say,

“He was a good man; he wrought no miracles, but he spake words of Christ, which led me to know Him for myself.”

Will you have kind words to say after I departed this life? Do you want to say those words today while I am alive? May our silence be a message of hope to those seeking solace in the arms of our Lord.

WHAT ARE YOU SEEKING?

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24).

The best evidence of God’s presence is the devil’s growl. So wrote good Dr. Spurgeon in his book “The Sword and the Trowel,” and that little sentence has helped many a tried and tired child Of God to stand fast and even rejoice under the fiercest attacks of the foe.

We read the book of Samuel that the moment that David was crowned at Hebron, “All the Philistines came up to seek David.” And the moment we get anything from the Lord worth contending for, then the devil comes to seek us. Yes, some come with good intention and others will come with deceit, ill-will, bad mind, jealousy, hatred and only to do or cause harm in any way they can. Be thou wise as a serpent and very harmless as a dove.

When the enemy meets us at the threshold of any great work of God let us accept it as “a token of salvation,” and claim double blessing, victory, and power. Power is developed by resistance. The cannon carries twice as far because the exploding power has to find its way through resistance. The way electricity is produced in the power-house yonder is the sharp friction of the revolving wheels. And so we shall find someday that even Satan has been one of God’s agencies of blessing. That’s why you have to entertain some energy for the blessings to be broken. Something has to die for life to come forth. Hallelujah.

Today I move in the quest seeking a builder whose maker is the Lord. For my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ and His righteousness. I count every other situation as naught before me and the Lord’s anointing. I came to the crossroad where I have to shake off the weight that keeps me down. I want to fly and soar like the eagle way above the storms of life. When the change takes place the world will not understand because God is at work in my life. Hallelujah.

Stay blessed my beloved brethren, and God bless you

TESTING THROUGH FAITH

Sir Godfrey Gregg D.Div

“For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:” (2 Corinthians 1:8). “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Image result for TESTING THROUGH FAITHGod allowed the crisis to close around Jacob on the night when he bowed at Peniel in supplication, to bring him to the place where he could take hold of God as he would never have done; and from that narrow pass of peril, Jacob became enlarged in his faith and knowledge of God, and in the power of a new and victorious life.

God had to compel David, by a long and painful discipline of years, to learn the almighty power and faithfulness of his God, and grow up into the established principles of faith and godliness, which were indispensable for his glorious career as the king of Israel.

Nothing but the extremities in which Paul was constantly placed could ever have taught him, and taught the Church through him, the full meaning of the great promise he so learned to claim, “My grace is sufficient for thee.”

And nothing but our trials and perils would ever have led some of us to know Him as we do, to trust Him as we have, and to draw from Him the measures of grace which our very extremities made indispensable. You were not called to walk this journey because it is there and open, but you are called to build character for the mission that lies ahead. The plan of God had to be fulfilled.

As soon as something comes negatively in our way we announce that we are out and giving up. Really, that easy and you have never fought in a battle. Why did you occupy space at that time? It is all in the plan of God for building strength and character in His church and the individual.

Difficulties and obstacles are God’s challenges to faith. When hindrances confront us in the path of duty, we are to recognize themImage result for TESTING THROUGH FAITH as vessels for faith to fill with the fullness and all-sufficiency of Jesus; and as we go forward, simply and fully trusting Him, we may be tested, we may have to wait and let patience have her perfect work, but we shall surely find at last the stone rolled away, and the Lord waiting to render unto us double for our time of testing.
